Abstract
Research carried out in the Archaeological Zone of Monte Bernorio, in the centre of the southern side of the Cantabrian Mountains, has increased our knowledge of changes in the human habitation of that region from the Late Chalcolithic and Bronze Age to the foundation of the Iron Age oppidum. The hinterland of this site also encompasses a series of areas with ritual structures associated with high mountain pastureland. They help to understand the habitation and use of those montane areas throughout Late Prehistory. The scarcity of habitation sites and the phenomenon of the invisibility of the deceased in mortuary sites hinder the understanding of the Bronze Age in this mountain region enormously.
