This work deals with the mathematical modelling and numerical simulation of processes involved in the quenching of steel. The considered physical processes are heat conduction, phase transformation, thermoelasticity, classical plasticity and transformation induced plasticity (TRIP). For the resulting coupled system of ordinary and partial differential equations an algorithm for the numerical treatment in finite element simulations is developed. Here the major difficulty arises form the treatment of classical plasticity with nonlinear isotropic and kinematic hardening which also includes a coupling to transformation induced plasticity. For several processes a model comparison is conducted to reduce deviations between experimental data and simulation results.
